So, we've brought you our One Planet Home scheme to help you find the best energy efficient appliances for your kitchen. They'll cost you less to run and dramatically cut your energy bills. They're great for the environment too, so you'll know you're doing your bit for the planet by being green.

bulletTurn your microwave off after use; 22% of a microwave's total electricity demand is from standby.

bulletTurn your oven off 10 minutes before your food has finished cooking; the temperature stays fairly constant, saving you 25% of energy.

bulletUse a burner on your hob that's smaller than the pan.

- Pick a tumble dryer that has sensor drying.

- All Energy Saving Trust recommended dryers are B rated or above and use a sensor, ensuring the machine stops when your laundry is dry.

bulletKeep the filters clean.

bulletDon't leave your dryer running unchecked for long periods; if the load is dry you'll be wasting energy.

bulletRemember to turn your machine off to save standby energy.

bulletUse a high spin setting on your washing machine to remove excess moisture. The less moisture in your clothes, the less time they'll need in the dryer.

- Choose a freezer that's the right size for your family; freezers work best when they're full.

- Fridges and freezers are on 24/7, so it's really important to choose efficient models.

bulletCheck there's a gap of 10cm or more between the coils on the back of your fridge and the wall.

bulletMake sure the coils aren't covered in dust or grime.

bulletKeep your fridge away from your cooker or radiator.

bulletCheck your fridge is the right temperature so food stays fresher for longer.
